Issa Aremu rates IEDPU high

The National Vice President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Issa Aremu has described Ilorin Emirate Descendants' Progressive Union (IEDPU) as a formidable institution that believes in collective struggle to effect better society.

The NLC leader gave the commendation at the weekend while speaking at the annual Eid-el-Kabir celebration organised by the Ilorin branch of the union, held at it national secretariat, Geri Alimi, Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

Aremu who chaired this year celebration also appealed to the of Ilorin to sustain the existing peace in the state saying that no meaningful progress could be achieved in a rancour and chaos environment.

The labour activist particularly commended the peace-minded people of Kwara for working towards peace and harmony adding that peace and social justice gives permanent rest of mind.

He called on people of the state to attach utmost priority to education of their children saying that the surest factor that can liberate any cociety from bondage or captivity is sound and qualitative education.

Comrade Aremu who emphasised at the occasion that he was in labour movement not because he was hungry but angry, also used the forum to call on the state government to be sensitive to the plight of its workers.

In his welcome address, the national President of the union, justice Saka Yusuf who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Alhaji AbdulHameed Adi Said annual Eid-el-Kabir being organised by the union was aimed at championing a new cause of direction for the progress of Ilorin Emirate in particula and Kwara in General.

Earlier in his situation report on how far the Ilorin branch of the has gone in the area of education and other sectors, the Chairman Education committee, Alhaji AbdulRasaq AbdulKareem said the union had gone far in terms of building a standard Nursery and Primary school, named Model N/P school located in Ilorin.

Delivering the sermon at the programme, an Ilorin-based Islamic scholar, Udstadh Sobur Ghali Alaaya said kwara needs prayer if we want to forge ahead as a state.
