A 3-man accreditation team from the West African College of Physician has arrived Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital to commence evaluation of the Ilorin General Hospital for postgraduate medical training.

The visiting team arrived the state capital at the weekend, to evaluate the level of preparedness of the General Hospital, Ilorin to commence postgraduate training for medical doctors of the state health sector in family medicine.

The team, which is being led by Dr. Akin Moses from the National Hospital, Abuja will be evaluating the entire facilities in place to support effective service delivery and training of medical personnel under the state health sector in the bid to acquire additional professional qualification while rendering essential services to their teeming patients.

The arrival of the accreditation team is in line with the vision of the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to improve the health sector and a fulfilment of one of his electioneering campaign promises to the people of the State.

A delegation of health experts in the state, led by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Raji Razaq and their counterparts from the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital later received the visiting team.

In his goodwill message presented through his Health Commissioner, Dr. Raji Razaq, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq assured the team of the state government's commitment to qualitative healthcare delivery service throughout the State.

Speaking at a welcome reception organised in honour of the visiting team, the Chief Medical Director of the General Hospital, Ilorin, Dr. Abdulkadir Bola Ahmed described family medicine as "that part of medical practice that takes care of the total health of the patient".

According to him, this is the more reason why the hospital needed to facilitate all the necessary inputs to ensure its commencement while commending the Governor for providing essential requirements to make a success of the accreditation exercise.

The team had commenced work in earnest and is expected to submit its report to the West African College of Physician, with a view to formally endorsing the commencement of postgraduate medical training for family medicine in the Kwara State Hospitals.
