Alleged Improper Dressing: Kwara teacher cuts studen's body with blade

Date: 2018-11-03

For allegedly not properly dressed, Yisa Suleiman, a Senior Secondary School 2 student of Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Odo-Okun, Ilorin was on Tuesday inflicted with razor blade injuries, by his teacher simply identified as Mr Adeyemi.

This medium gathered that Adeyemi, who is said to be the head of guidance and counselling unit of the school, challenged the 18-year-old Yisa for wearing a tight fitted school uniform and subsequently reached for a razor blade and allegedly tore the uniform and subsequently body of the student.

Yisa was said to have lost lot of blood as a result of the cut on his body.

Narrating his ordeal to our reporter yesterday at the family residence located at Jooro area, off Asa Dam Road, Ilorin, the teenager said, "l was at the food vendors stand in the school on Tuesday when the teacher called me from afar.

"While standing before him, he queried why I wore a tight uniform to school and he did not wait for my explanation before he brought out a razor blade and inflicted cuts indiscriminately on my arm and blood started gushing out."

Speaking further, Yisa said that the incident was witnessed by another staff identified as Mr. Ayinla.

"When I got home, I tried to keep it away from my mother but one of my classmates reported the case to her. Though I am aware my mother went to our school and met with the Principal, yesterday, (Tuesday), I however don't know what transpired between them, "he said.

In her reaction, the mother of the victim, Mrs Balikis Suleiman, who is a teacher too, expressed her grievances, saying she was at the school to lodge complaint.

"At the school, I met with the principal and registered my displeasure. She subsequently called on the teacher who initially denied cutting my son's body with razor blade but he later confessed to have carried out the heinous act.

"The principal however pleaded on the teacher's behalf adding that we should settle the issue amicably."

When contacted last night, the Permanent Secretary, Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Maryam Garuba said the case has not been reported to the ministry.

"I am just hearing about it for the first time from your medium. I will tell the Director of School Services to go to the school and find out what actually happened," she said.

Meanwhile, efforts to get the reaction of the principal of GDSS, Odo-Okun, Alhaja Segilola Onimago proved abortive as calls were not picked and text message sent to her mobile phone was not responded to before this paper went to bed.
