The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara State, yesterday, urged security agencies in the state to check alleged plan by the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, to cause crisis in the state.

It will be recalled that ACN state chairman, Mr Kayode Olawepo, had in a statement in Ilorin, said that there could be no "reasonable" explanation for the habitual delay in the payment of salaries, a problem he said was unique to Kwara State.

He had alleged that the non-payment of salary was a symptom of "political deceit and a sabotage championed by the PDP-led state government in connivance with the party's leadership."

But PDP, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Mas'ud Adebimpe, alleged that it had uncovered a plot by the state's ACN to cause civil disobedience in the state.

He said: "Impeccable sources confirmed the clandestine mobilisation by ACN's leadership holding secret meetings with some groups suspected to be against the government of the day under the pretext that it was sympathising with the affected workers at local government areas, who are yet to receive their salaries.

"PDP wishes to draw the attention of the general public to this dangerous move by ACN to cause more hardship for our people under the guise of playing politics. PDP in the state, therefore, calls on security agencies to, as a matter of urgency and in the interest of public peace and security of lives and property, apprehend the leadership of ACN with immediate effect."
