Kwara govt pledges commitment to youth empowerment

Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed has reiterated commitment of his administration to youth empowerment through education and entrepreneurial skill acquisition.

Governor Ahmed, who also emphasized on zero tolerance for crime and criminality, especially cultism in the state, gave this commitment during the 2017 graduation ceremony of Darul-Kitab Wassunnah College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Gaa-Akanbi, Ilorin.

According to Gov Ahmed, "youths remain the hope of the nation. We are aware of the need to boost the capacity of our youths through qualitative education as well as entrepreneurial skills in order to make them employers of labour and not job seekers."

The governor said "Kwara State Government established the State Arabic Education Board so as to re-position the teaching and learning of Arabic language in our schools and also formulate curriculum for the existing Traditional Arabic Centres across the state in line with the 'Every Child Counts' education policy. This, we belief, will no doubt enhance the capacity of Students in Arabic Schools and enable them to compete favourably with their counterparts undergoing western education without any fear or favour at all times."

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Sola Gold, the governor noted that no nation can development without adequate attention to the educational development of its youths.

Earlier in his remarks, the Proprietor of the College, Dr. AbdulKadir Oba-Solagberu had disclosed that a total number of 693 students of different categories graduated in the 2016/2017 academic session.

He added that the institution had in the last 24 years impacted positively in the state through qualitative Arabic and Islamic Education thereby guarding against extremism and religious fanatism among youths.
