Ahmed felicitates as Ambali emerges new UNILORIN VC
Acting Dean of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Ilorin, Abdulaganiyu Ambali, has emerged Vice Chancellor designate of the institution.
His appointment was announced on Thursday after a special Senate meeting of the university.
Ambali, who hails from Ilorin town, bagged the post in his second attempt, as he contested and lost, five years ago when he was with University of Maiduguri.
The new VC, 54, was among the five shorlisted from the initial 20 aspirants for interview last Monday.
The Selection Committee was expected to prune the list before a final choice is made
Registrar of the university and Secretary of the institution’s Governing Council, Olufolake Oyeyemi, who made the announcement, said the council approved the appointment after it carefully considered the recommendations of the Selection Committee
Oyeyemi said, "At a special meeting held on Wednesday July 25, 2012, the University Council received the report of the Council/Senate Selection Board.
"The board had been set up to access and recommend to the council, suitable candidates for the position of the vice chancellor which will become vacant at the expiration of the tenure of the current Vice Chancellor, Professor Ishaq Oloyede on October 15, 2012.
"Having carefully considered the recommendations and guided by the provisions of relevant extant laws, the council expressed satisfaction in the procedure adopted which followed the due process.
"Consequently, in compliance with the extant laws governing the appointment of Vice chancellor, the council approved the appointment of Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali with effect from October 16, 2012".
Born on November 29, 1957, Ambali, a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, is a Professor of Veterinary Medicine.
Meanwhile, Kwara State governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has felicitated with the Governing Council and management of the university for a true democratic process, which produced Professor Ambali as the new VC.
