Senators lament state of Nigerian prisons

The senate yesterday began debate on a bill which seeks to rehabilitate Nigerian prisons and guarantee the reformation of prisoners after their terms

The debate on the bill which was led by Senator Shaaba Lafiagi from Kwara state is titled 'A Bill for an Act to Repeal and Re-enact the Prisons Act CAP P29 LFN 2004 Bill 2016'.

Senator Lafiagi while leading the debate on the bill decried the appalling situations in major Nigerian prisons and the need for their improvement. Some other senators who commented while the debate lasted said most Nigerian prisoners come home even worse than before they went to prison.
