Date: 2016-06-12

The North Central Zone of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed rude shock over the death of a senior journalist in the Kwara State Council of the union, Mr Yekeen Abioye Olanrewaju. Olanrewaju was until his demise on Tuesday the state's correspondent of The Union newspaper in Kwara State.

A statement issued yesterday, which was jointly signed by Vice President and Secretary of the zone, Mr Wilson Bako and Prince Akeem Olatidoye, said the zone was saddened by the unfortunate incident. The zone eulogised the late journalist for exploring his field professionally, which saw him becoming a reference material in the union.

It also showered encomium on the deceased for carving a niche for himself in the field, saying he contributed significantly to the growth and development of journalism. The zone added that the deceased was always at the vanguard of championing the cause of the downtrodden.

It urged the Kwara State government to immortalize the late journalist on account of his selfless service to humanity. It also condoled the state council of NUJ for the loss and prayed Almighty God to grant the deceased eternal rest.
