Press Release: Kwara PDP inciting Kwarans against the government over bond - Kwara APC

Date: 2016-01-06

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kwara State wishes to raise the alarm over attempt by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to incite the Kwara public against the APC-led government on the proposed N20billion bond.

We have been reliably informed by impeccable insider sources that the leadership of the PDP in Kwara State has perfected moves to incite Kwarans with lies and half-truths on the proposed N20billion bond. Among other evil plans, the PDP has contracted a notorious printing press along Opomalu area, Ilorin, to massively produce handbills and leaflets containing the concoction of lies for massive distribution across Kwara state.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Kwara APC reiterate the fact that it is not opposed to constructive dissenting views either on the proposed bond or any other issues whatsoever. However, we condemn any attempt at misleading Kwarans through unwholesome propaganda and misleading information in the name of opposition politics. Meanwhile, considering the PDP reputation for mischief making and violence, we felt obliged to raise this alarm with a view to disabusing the minds of the few impressionable Kwarans who may be swayed by the PDP's impending propaganda.

For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to maintain earlier position that the bond is being floated only to engender improved welfare for teeming Kwara masses. Among others, the Kwara Government plans to use the proceeds of the bond to build critical infrastructure like roads, hospitals, schools and industry. Anything short of this is only a product of the imagination of the opposition elements.

As a party, we have at several fora committed ourselves to transparency and accountability. And this is why we have pledged to monitor the disbursement of every penny of the bond to ensure that the funds are utilised only on projects which have direct impact on the poor masses.

We therefore urge Kwarans to disregard the antics of the PDP. We also urge the PDP itself to desist forthwith from its planned action which can only overheat the policy and set the people against the good intention of the Kwara Government.

But if the PDP fails or refuses to heed this advice, we will not hesitate to encourage the government to use the long arm of the law to forestall any untoward actions that seek to incite the people against the government.

Alhaji Sulyman Buhari
Publicity Secretary
APC, Kwara State
