Unpaid salaries: Herald staff slumps, hospitalized
The staff identified as Kehinde Ayilara, reportedly collapsed while coming to the office due to palpable hunger.
It was gathered that the expectant wife of the staff delivered a baby three days ago and was unable to offset medical bill at the hospital.
Findings by newsmen showed that staff of the newspaper house owned by the Kwara State government and two other media outfits, Radio Kwara and Kwara State Television are being owed three months salaries.
Due to backlog of salaries, situation has become precarious for many of the workers including members of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who struggling to make ends meet.
The staff members were being owed June, July and August Salaries.
It was learnt that the ailing Herald staff was hospitalized at the state Civil Service Clinic.
Newsmen gathered that NUJ and other unions in the three media organizations had threatened to resort to industrial unrest if government failed to meet their demand.
