Press Release: Ramadan: Atunwa Charges Muslims on Prayer for Nigeria
Atunwa who represents Asa/Ilorin West Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives made this known in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Olawale Rotimi. "Ramadan is a period of intense prayers to Allah, a period to develop and strengthen our powers of self control so that we can resist wrong desires and guard against evil. As we join Muslims across the world in observing this Holy Month, we must afford to utilize the opportunity of our closeness to God to pray fervently for the peace, stability and progress of Nigeria" he said.
Atunwa urged Muslims to remain steadfast and demonstrate huge charity and generosity as they bear the rigours of fasting purely for the sake of following the Divine commendment, knowing that Allah who sees all their actions and prayers will accept their worship and reward them with blessings. "Charity and generosity must be demonstrated specially during Ramadan, Muslims must learn to give and not take. We must ensure the deprivation of fasting makes us sympathize with the suffering of others" he stated.
Beyond refraining from eating and drinking, Atunwa stated that the period is essentially for renewal of spirit and attainment of righteousness in the sight of Allah. Atunwa further urged Muslims to ensure they let go of selfish interests for the progress of Nigeria.
