Kwara to redeploy teachers without NCE certificate

Date: 2014-06-27

Teachers in the Kwara State Teaching Service without certificate in education are to be eased out of the system, the state government said yesterday.

The affected teachers in primary and post-pri-mary schools would be redeployed to ministries or parastatals that are relevant to their fields of study.

This was one of the decisions taken at the end of the state executive council meeting presided over by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

The government added that it has conclu-ded arrangements with the government of Philippine to establish a campus of AMA Computer University in Ilorin.

The university, which was established in 1980, is the first ICT university in Asia, which serves as the flagship brand of AMA Education system in Philippine.

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the meeting, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Saka Onimago, said the teachers would be deployed into the mainstream civil service.

The commissioner who disclosed that there are 21, 000 teachers with NCE qualification in the state, said those of them who did not specialize in primary education would be allowed to go for a sandwich course.

He said the redeployment would be on gradual basis so that it does not disrupt academic activities.
