Army capable of fighting insurgency - Major Adeyemi

Date: 2014-04-03

Nigeria’s Armed Forces have the sophisticated weapons, adequate intelligent gathering and strategies to tackle insurgency in the North-east.

A retired Military Officer, Major Tunde Adeyemi stated this stated on Wednesday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

Major Adeyemi commended the efforts of the army and other security agents in dealing with insurgents.

“Internal security problem must be carefully handled to protect innocent citizens,”he stated.

According to him, if the military declare a total war in volatile areas, innocent lives would be lost.

“The Nigerian government should strengthen security apparatus by ensuring that insurgency is tactically tackled,’’ he stressed.

On the issue of unemployment, Major Adeyemi attributed it to one of the wings causing high rate of insecurity. He appealed to the government to take frantic effort in solving the problem.

Embrace agriculture
Major Adeyemi advised the youths to embrace agriculture, describing it as ‘a dignity of labour that would create employment for the teeming unemployed youths.’

“Nigeria is blessed with fertile lands capable of growing crops on large scale and over 1.8 million graduates churning into the labour market could be empowered through agriculture,’’ he said.

The retired Army officer also emphasised the need for the government to improve power supply, saying that Nigeria was endowed financially and with resources that could provide steady power supply.

Tunde Adeyemi retired as Regimental Sergeant Major, Warrant Officer First Class at the Nigerian Army.
