Date: 2014-02-13

The 2014 Kwara State appropriation bill of N124. 5 billion has sailed through second reading on the floor of the state House with majority members calling for speedy passage of the bill.

The Majority Leader of the House, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu AbdulKareem, moved the motion for the second reading of the bill which was seconded by the member representing Ekiti constituency.

The member representing Ojomu Balogun constituency, Mr Tope Layonu, urged the state government to de-emphasis relying on monthly allocation from the Federal Government but to rather improve the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The legislator noted that most projects slated for completion in the 2013 budget are yet to be completed and called for proper implementation and monitoring of the 2014 budget.

Hajia Raliat Adifa, who represents Lanwa-Jidongari constituency, urged the state to ensure that job creation in the budget is implemented and cut across the three senatorial districts of the state to reduce high number of unemployed in the state.

The lawmaker, who noted that several communities in the state are still experiencing acute water shortage, called for the provision of portable water to the communities.
