Kwara Assembly tasks education agencies on responsibilities

Date: 2014-02-13

The Kwara State Ministry of Education, Teaching Service Commission (TSC) and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) have been urged to double commitment in discharging their duties.

The Kwara State House of Assembly made the plea through the Chairman, House Committee on Education and Human Development, Mr. Nimota Ibrahim.

The call followed the assessment of a report on education submitted to the house by the House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development.

The government agencies were also urged to address the issue of absenteeism, the use of vital records, and lateness of teachers to schools, enforcement of mode of dressing among other issues.

The committee observed that most teachers in the state were unqualified and out of tune with modern trend in the education system.

"Most schools in the state are experiencing shortage of teachers in Sciences, Mathematics and English language. Some schools have up to three vice principals without schedule, there are lateness and absenteeism and even most teachers dress shabbily to classrooms.

That vital school records such as movement of books, registers etc are not adequately utilized and supervision and monitoring are also lacking," it stated.
