Kwara Govt Approves N30 Million for LG Workers
Kwara State government has approved 30 million naira as argument of the excess crude oil fund to pay local government workers as a result of decline in statutory allocation from the federation Account.
The state Commissioner for finance, Alhaji Demola Banu, disclosed this at a meeting with local government chairmen, stakeholders and representatives of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and that of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Ilorin.
The commissioner said Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed expressed concern over the short falls in the allocation to all states and local governments across the country and has ordered the immediate release of the argumentation to enable council workers have salaries.
He said the fund in the joint account project was mainly for capital projects and will be used mainly for the purpose.
Banu enjoyed local government chairmen to improve on the internally generated revenue in view of the declining allocation from the federation account.
He also urged them to be prudent to ensure value for money with assurance that the government will not source for money from local government councils.
Also speaking at the occasion, the state acting president of NULGE, Mrs. Felicia Aina, reinstated the union's commitment tothe peaceful resolution of industrial problems and promised to assist government in finding a lasting solution to the problem of inadequate fund at the local councils.
