Arewa group cautions PDP over G5 suit

Date: 2013-12-14

As the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) files a suit at an Abuja Federal  High Court seeking to declare  vacant, the seats of  its five governors who defected to the opposition APC,  the Arewa Nationalist Movement (ANM)  has cautioned the party to restrain from acts that would plunge Nigeria into chaos.

ANM National Secretary, Chief Iorember Aker, who described PDP’s action as unnecessary, told Weekly trust that  past defections in favour of the PDP never attracted litigations.

He said “we also hear that Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party  (PDP) Alhaji Bamanga Tukur  is considering filling an exp-parte motion which will make a declaratory order asking the five governors who recently decamped  from the PDP for the APC to leave office immediately”.

“As a movement that is out to preach peace and stability in Nigeria, we strongly advice the leadership of the PDP to exercise caution and not take any action that will plunge Nigeria into chaos. We strongly feel that this move is capable of causing anarchy in a country that is already politically volatile, like Nigeria.

Aker therefore reminded Tukur that when ex-governors Ikedi Ohakim defected from PPA to PDP, Isa Yuguda defected from ANPP to PDP, Theodore Orji defected  from PPA to PDP and others, no exp-parte motion was filed against them at any High Court to make a declaratory order asking them to leave their offices.

The group warned that should any anarchy break out  over Tukur’s action, Nigerians will hold the entire leadership of the PDP responsible.
