We're consulting on sealed secretariat - Kwara nPDP
Following the sealing off of the new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) secretariat in Kwara State by the police, the party said yesterday that it was consulting on the next line of action.
The police after taking over the property at the weekend had directed the two claimants to the secretariat to go to court.
The development was a fall-out of last week's merger of new PDP in the state with All Progressives Congress (APC) with members of the mainstream PDP in the state asking the former members to vacate the property located at No. 12 Nupe road GRA Ilorin.
Scores of mobile policemen had been mobilized to the secretariat and all the roads leading to the place on Saturday when the two claimants- supporters of former Governor Bukola Saraki and PDP members insisted on holding their meetings at the secretariat.
The state Police Public Relations officers (PPRO) however said policemen would continue to occupy the building until a competent court determines the rightful owner of the building.
Speaking with Daily Trust yesterday, former secretary of new PDP, Prince Yemi Afolayan said: "We have all our documents as you saw last week. So, we are making our consultations after which you will know our next step".
Former PDP chairman in the state, Ishola Balogun-Fulani, who briefed newsmen at the weekend, had said that the building does not belong to PDP as the rent was being paid by Saraki in his name.
But speaking on behalf of the PDP, a member of the House of Assembly, Iliasu Ibrahim insisted that the defected members had no right over the structure since they have merged with the APC.
A copy of the receipt of the building's rent obtained by Daily Trust, was issued in the name of Ishola Balogun-Fulani by one Niyi Odetundun and Company and it would expire on April 30, 2014. The receipt shows that a payment of N800, 000 was meant for tenancy period of 1st May, 2013 to 30th April, 2014.
