Kwara land acquisition policy abolished
The controversial Land Acquisition Policy of the Kwara State Government may have been abolished.
Although there was no clear announcement to the effect by the state government at the weekend, the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), a politico-cultural group that decried the formulation of the policy, has hailed the decision.
It will be recalled that the policy, which was formulated shortly before the end of former Governor Bukola Saraki's tenure, did not go down well with indigenes, particularly IEDPU and other private land owners in Ilorin, the state capital.
IEDPU was then reported to have criticised the policy when it was claimed that the expansive Muslims' Eid-Praying Ground in Ilorin had been acquired by the government following the implementation of the policy.
In a statement yesterday, however, IEDPU hailed the abolition of the policy.
IEDPU gave Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed's administration a pat on the back "for being a listening and a caring government."
