Date: 2012-04-23

Former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN),  Justice Alfa Modibbo Belgore (rtd), Sunday said Nigeria could become one of the five economies of the world if all the human and material resources were well managed.

Belgore stated this in Ilorin, Kwara state capital while receiving Vice-President Nnamadi Sambo and other top  Federal Government delegations in his house,  during the latter condolence visit over his wife, Hajia Fatimah Belgore's death.

Mrs. Belgore died on April 19 in the family's home in Abuja, after a brief illness and was later buried in Ilorin. Justice Belgore said: "Nigeria is one of the greatest countries on earth. All we need to do is to ensure its stability. Our detractors don't want the country's stability and this country can become one of the great five economies of the world if well managed." He urged the current government in the country to ensure constant power supply, job creation and youth employment.

He noted that the presidential visit would eternally be remembered by the family, saying: "Little did I know that the head of the country will deem it fit to come here and commiserate with us."

In his remark, Sambo said: "The entourage is on the basis of President Goodluck Jonathan.

"He specially directed to come and expressed  condolences on his behalf and the entire Nigeria on the the loss of our mother, your wife.

We have been led by our host, the Deputy Governor of the state, Peter Kishira and Senator Bukola Saraki. The Wakili of Adamawa, Alhaji Hassan Adamu, Senator Mohammed Goje. We are extending our sincere condolences.

"It is a sad moment. It is a loss not only to you but to us and to Nigerians in general. We pray God to grant you the wisdom to bear great loss."
