Crisis persists over Olofa stool
Fresh confusion has surfaced in the battle over Olofa’s stool as a prince from the Olugbense ruling house in Offa, Kwara State, Barrister AbdulHakeem AbdulRaheem, has dragged the family to court over the selection of Prince Rauf Keji as the candidate for Olofa stool.
AbdulRaheem filed the suit at Offa High Court challenging Keji’s candidature as the next Olofa of Offa from the ruling house.
It would be recalled that the Court of Appeal had in July nullified the selection, appointment and installation of Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi and ordered Keji’s installation.
While the battle has shifted to the Supreme Court, AbdulRaheem in a writ of summon number KWS/OFFA/16/2013 made available to journalists, claimed that he was a bonafide and legitimate candidate selected for Olofa stool from the family.
He said he was the candidate selected by the Magajis of Olugbense ruling house of Offa on March 26, 2010.
The plaintiff claimed further that he was presented to Offa Kingmakers as preferred candidate for the Olofa stool and not Rauf Keji.
AbdulRaheem in the suit added that Keji’s selection was without consent of the five Magajis representing the ruling house.
He, therefore, urged the court to accept that the selection of Keji was contrary to Offa native laws and customs relating to the selection of Olofa from the Olugbense ruling house in the Gazette of 1970.
