Kwara: Disabled persons want bill

Date: 2015-02-15

No fewer than 400 disabled persons and the Kwara State governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Dr, Mike Omotosho, on Saturday in Ilorin called on President Goodluck Jonathan to sign into law the disability bill said to have been passed by the National Assembly.

They noted that signing of the bill into law would assist physically challenged people to address some of their socio-economic challenges.

The Kwara State Chairman, Disabled People Association, Mr. Teslim Balogun in an interview with journalists on behalf of the over 400 members of the association during a valentine/empowerment summit organised by Omotosho for the physically challenged people said the bill if signed into law by Jonathan would address many of their problems.

“The Federal Government should have policy for people with disability. There is one bill in Abuja. The National Assembly has enacted the law but it is on Mr. President’s table now. So we are begging the Federal Government to sign it. It will help people living with disability a lot. The bill has many positive provisions which include monthly social security payment for people living with disability in Nigeria. We can not work like normal people, so we need some assistance.”
