Anyim, Gana, Kwara governor, others bid Oyedepo's mother farewell
Prominent Nigerians, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Anyim Pius Anyim (representing President Jonathan), Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State and former Information Minister,Professor Jerry Gana, were among thousands of people who converged on Omu-Aran, Kwara State, yesterday for the funeral service for Mrs. Morenike Oyedepo.
The deceased is the mother of Dr. David Oyedepo, the presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel).
The President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, who preached the sermon at the service, said Nigeria could only overcome the evil currently ravaging it by dealing with the craze for money.
Love of money, selfishness and greed, according to him, has stifled Nigeria's growth.
His words: "Nigeria is not poor; it is Nigerians that are poor. A handful of Nigerians are cornering the country's resources to their own advantage. Corruption is a product of greed and selfish interest. No matter how long we live on this earth, we will go one day and people will gather to celebrate one's good or bad deeds."
The CAN president said Nigeria could only get out of the wood "when hard work is rewarded and wickedness is punished."
However, he urged Nigerians not lose hope, praying that "By the grace of God, very soon we will see the Nigeria that we are all dreaming of.
"I hope of Nigeria where a man from Kano will go to Port Harcourt and be a Nigerian, where a man from Abeokuta will go to Calabar and be a Nigerian."
Also at the service for Elder (Mrs.) Oyedepo, 97, were Deputy Governor of Lagos State; wives of Cross Rivers and Lagos State governors; Mrs. Obioma Imoke and Mrs. Emmanuela Fashola; wife of Ooni of Ife, Olori Odunola Sijuade; President, Cherubim and Seraphim Aladura Worldwide, S.A Abidoye; Professor Mercy Abiri of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) and Publisher of National Mirror newspapers, Chief Jimoh Ibrahim,
Others included Professor Solomon Olorundare who represented Professor Is-haq Oloyede of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN); former Military Administrator of old Kwara State, Brigadier-General David Bamigboye (rtd) and former Military Administrator of Bauchi and Osun states, Colonel Theophilus Bamigboye (rtd).
Also in attendant were the representatives of Ogun, Osun and Niger state governments. Clergymen and women at the occasion were Bishop Margret Benson-Idahosa, Pastors David Ibiomie, Paul Eneche, Bishop David Abioye, Bishop Thomas Aremu and many others.
Eminent traditional rulers from both within and outside the state also graced the occasion, while the popular gospel musician, Bola Are, was on hand to spice the occasion, especially at the Christian wake keep that took place on Thursday this week, with sonorous songs.
