GLO League: LMC Sanctions Kwara Utd over Crowd Violence
Kwara United and Warri Wolves have been directed to replay the Week 29 abandoned Glo Premier League match tomorrow at the FIFA Technical Centre, Abuja even as the Ilorin side were slammed a host of sanctions by the League Management Company (LMC) for the breaches that led to the non-completion of the encounter last Sunday.
The sanctions, according to the LMC, are to serve as a message to all the clubs that the security of match officials and visiting teams are the responsibility of the host teams.
In a letter addressed to the management of both clubs by the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the LMC, Salihu Abubakar, it was noted that the Match Commissioner’s report indicted the host team, Kwara United for the security breaches that led to the physical assault on the First Assistant Referee, Mr. C. I. D. Durunna by the home fans.
The LMC, he said, "reached some preliminary decisions which were listed as: The match is to be replayed at the FIFA Technical Centre, Abuja on Thursday, September 5, 2013 and Kwara United will bear the organisational costs for hosting the match including indemnities, transport and hotel accommodation of the Match Officials and the opponents.
"That Kwara United will pay N5m fine to the LMC before the replay of the match in line with Article 3.7 (1) failing which Kwara United will forfeit three points and three goals to Warri Wolves. They are expected to present bank instruments for the payment before the kick-off of the replay.
"That Kwara United will play their matches at the Ilorin Township Stadium behind closed doors for the rest of the season. That Kwara United to pay a fine of N200, 000 and also pay the full medical bills of Mr. Durunna within the next 60 days beginning from August 31," said the statement.
Finally, the indicted Club has been ordered to produce the fan who attacked the assistant referee within the next seven days for prosecution or risk having the stadium banned from hosting Glo Premier League matches.
Abubakar noted that the listed sanctions are without prejudice to any further disciplinary measures that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Organising and Disciplinary Committee may impose when they meet on the case.
