Commercial cyclist bags 5-yr jail term for stealing

A commercial cyclist, Segun Daudu, 46, who was found guilty of stealing home appliances, has been sentenced to 5yrs imprisonment.

An Ilorin Chief Magistrate Court sentenced Daudu of Ile Daudu, Otun Egbe, Kogi State, to the jail term having pleaded guilty of the offense of theft contrary to Section 286 of Penal Code Law.

Prior to his conviction, the prosecutor Barrister S. B Basambo prayed the court to try the accused summarily since he admitted to have committed the offense.

The Judge, Chief Magistrate N.A. Adeyanju granted the oral application of the prosecutor and convicted the accused accordingly.

Consequently, the court sentenced the convict to 5 years imprisonment with an option of N10, 000 as fine.

The convict had on August 4 broken into the residence of Mr. Ibrahim Ali of Osin Aremu Area, Ilorin, and carted away home appliances.

Items carted away by the convict include: A 21 inches television set, DVD player, generator, clipper and a Nokia GSM handset.

The convict was arrested along Osin Olateju area, Ilorin, with some of the stolen items after which he was handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense (NSCDC0, State Headquarters, Ilorin.

First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that the convict led the operatives of NSCDC to their hide-out where he kept all other stolen items.

The FIR added further that investigation revealed that the convict belongs to a syndicate that has been terrorizing the people of Osin Aremu community.
