We don't have orders from the LMC - Kwara United
Kwara State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hajia Ramat Abaya has stated that neither the state government nor Kwara United has received a formal letter from the League Management Company (LMC) on the alleged government interference in the affair of the premier league club.
It was widely reported in local media that the LMC had given a 48-hour ultimatum which terminates Thursday to Kwara United to reverse the decision of the state government that set up a new management committee to run the club's affairs or face a ban from the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL).
Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed Monday constituted a five man commitee headed by his Chief of Staff, Toyin Sanusi, with the state Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hajia Abaya, Team Manager, Agboola Ibrahim Basambo, Coach Samson Unuanel and the Secretary, Olusola Shehu as other members to ensure a smooth day to day running of the team, a decision that has been condemned by the league's ruling body as government interference.
The Chief Operating Officer of the LMC, Salisu Abubakar told journalists that the decision of the state government to set up the committee amounts to government interference in sport which negates the rules governing the constitution of the club management in the elite class.
Abubakar threatened that Kwara United would be issued with the necessary sanctions if they failed to reverse the decision before the ultimatum expires.
He pointed out that the hitherto set up Kwara United board which has been relegated to advisory capacity now, should be allowed to resume duties and made to finish its tenure.
In a reaction to the claims from the LMC the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hajia Abaya disclosed that it would be premature to make any statement on a summon they read on the pages on the newspapers.
She stated that the club and state government would reply appropriately immediately they receive formal notification from the LMC.
"To be best of my knowledge, we have not got any letter from the LMC. It will be out of place to react on report or allegation we read on the pages of newspapers. We shall react appropriately immediately we get the notification from the LMC," she opened up.
"I still insist what we have done is in the best interest of the club. The club is not in any form of crisis. We are doing our bit to bring Kwara United to the limelight again after a long while. We shall do all within our means to achieve that," Hajia Abaya summed up.
