KWASU Renaming: Afenifere faults Wole Oke
The Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG), Kwara State chapter has faulted a PDP chieftain in the state, Chief Wole Oke, for disowning statement purportedly made on behalf of Shao, to the Afenifere's Chairman Chief Joe Olorogun for being part of signatories to object the re-naming of Kwara State University (KWASU) after late Doctor Olusola Saraki the Wasiri of Ilorin.
The Chairman of the group, Chief Olarogun who made the pronouncement during an interview with Royal FM correspondent, Olarotmi Oshin said him and two others of the ARG signed the objection document in his capacity as Chairman of Afenifere in the state and not as Asiwaju of Shao.
"I have tried to find out if he actually has the mandate of the community to speak, if he's authorized to make an announcement, I am the Asiwaju of shao, if anyone will speak I should speak on behalf of my community.
"If Oke is authorized by the Ohro of Shao, he could, but with this I do not think he was given any authority. So, I don't know why he is calling my name and blaspheming me. To me this has nothing to do with the community."
One of the elders of the community, Elder Abraham Adewuyi and the youth leader of the community, Mr Adeniyi Taiwo who spoke behalf of the community, said the community has never concurred the disowned statement made on behalf of the community by Chief Wole Oke to Olarogun.
According to them, Olarogun signed the document in his capacity as Chairman of Afenifere and not as Ashiwaju of Shao.
They added that there was no basis why an elder from Shao would have directed him to speak on behalf of the community while Chief Olarogun remains the Asiwaju of the community.
They said the community is neutral about the renaming of KWASU.
The Ohoro of Shao, Oba Bamidele Adegbite in his reaction reserved comment but noting that the community is making effort to reconcile the two parties.
