Kwara holds LG poll in Oct
Chairman, Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, Dr. Uthman Ajidagba, on Wednesday said the local government elections in the state would hold on Saturday, October 26.
Speaking in Ilorin at a stakeholders' forum, he added that a run-off election (if any) would hold on Saturday, November 2.
He noted that collection of personal data forms for chairmanship and councillorship aspirants, lists of candidates' forms as well as collection of nomination forms by political parties would hold on Monday, July 22.
According to him, the conduct of party primaries is to hold from August 1 to 24.
Ajidagba promised that the commission would conduct credible, free and fair LG elections.
He said, "We cannot afford to do just what have been done in the past without notable and acceptable improvement in all the ramifications during the conduct of the exercise. We must all agree, aspire, and pray to conduct a free, fair and credible council elections because local government is the third tier of government and by implication it is closest to the people.
"The leadership responsibility put on every one of us by our people is so enormous that we cannot afford to disappoint them."
