'Kwara Govt Injects N500m into Omu-Aran General Hospital'
The Kwara State government said it had purchased hospital equipment worth N500 million for the Omu-Aran General Hospital currently undergoing rehabilitation.
The Commissioner for Finance, Mr Ademola Banu, said this at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s congress at Ajase-Ipo in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.
He said that the state of the art equipment, which cut across every department of the hospital would be installed immediately after the rehabilitation work.
Banu said that the equipment included those for surgery and diagnosis, adding that a generating set was also purchased to enhance health care delivery in the area.
The commissioner, who did not disclose the cost of rehabilitating of the facility, said that he had assurance from the contractor that the hospital would be ready within the July deadline.
He pleaded with residents of the community to bear with government over their inability to access health care delivery at the hospital closed for renovation since January 2012.
“I have every assurance that by July, the renovated hospital would be inaugurated and opened to the public,” Banu said.
He said that government had also purchased ambulances which were to be distributed to hospitals presently undergoing rehabilitation across the 16 local government areas of the state.
The commissioner reiterated government’s commitment towards executing projects that would impact meaningfully on the living standard of the people, especially at the grass roots.
He listed other ongoing community-based projects to include the state-owned International Vocational Skills Centre in Ajase-Ipo and projects under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) spread across the local government areas.
Banu said that the governor had also approved an increase in the monthly allocations for development projects across the 16 local government areas from N100 million to N200 million, starting from this month.
“These projects, which include sinking of boreholes, provision of chairs and furniture, as well as other equipment in schools are being handled by indigenous contractors,” he said.
