KWSG Promises More Jobs

Date: 2013-05-04

The Kwara State Government has re-affirmed its commitment to employment creation for the teeming youths in the state. It also assured the citizens of the state that it is working towards the glorious era when the state government will cease to depend on revenue from oil through its Kwara Agriculture masterplan.

This observation was made on Wednesday at the Ilorin Metropolitan Park during this year’s May Day by the Head of Service, Alhaji Dabarako Mohammed, who represented the Governor at the occasion.

In his goodwill message, Alhaji Mohammed described the collaboration between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress(TUC) which led to a joint May Day anniversary between the two unions as good development, saying such will lead to harmony among all workers in the state.

He reiterated that the Kwara State workforce is an engine of growth which determines the government’s success, reassuring the labour community that government of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed is aware of labour’s yearning.

Responding to NLC’s requests on the need for the establishment of council IV in Joint Negotiating council (NLC), the Head of Service assured the leadership of the trade unions that the council IV will be admitted.

Also on car loan for the primary and secondary school teachers, he said effort to this effect is on-going. Also responding to labour’s demand that the seventeen junior staff of the Kwara State Environment Protection Agency(KWEPA) be integrated into the mainstream of the civil service, he explained that, that may be a bit difficult because the edits establishing various parastatals are different.

On tax regime, he said the problem will be addressed, reiterating that the state government pays high premium on good labour government relations.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) Kwara state council, Comrade Murtala S. Olayinka, has commended the state government for its authorization that the Supreme Court judgment of 2008 between the union and the Association of Community Health practitioners be implemented from April.

He pleaded for unity and peaceful co-existence among all industrial labour unions in the state. He also pleaded with the state government for upward review of the 50 percent consolidated Health salary structure.

In the same vein, the secretary general of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) Kwara state branch, Comrade Joseph Tunde, also appreciated the state government’s support for the trade unions in the state urging government to continue with its good programme.

It appealed to workers in the state to always come out for the May Day.
