Kwara Approves Corrected CONHESS, Improved Professional Allowances for Nurses, Health Workers
The Kwara State Government has approved the implementation of the corrected Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and a revised Professional Allowance Table for nurses and allied health workers in the state.
The approval was conveyed in a memorandum issued by the Office of the Head of Service on October 19, 2026, following a comprehensive review of salaries and allowances for medical officers and allied health workers employed by the state government.
The review followed a directive by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the Office of the Head of Service to establish a committee to examine the remuneration and welfare of healthcare professionals in the state.
The committee has completed its assignment and submitted a report containing recommendations aimed at improving workers' welfare, remuneration and working conditions.
Among the recommendations was an enhanced entry point for qualified graduate nurses and medical laboratory scientists, in line with the relevant Federal Government circular, to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve the retention of skilled professionals.
The committee also recommended that details of the deployment and posting of nurses and allied health workers be forwarded to the Office of the Head of Service to facilitate the processing of rural allowances for eligible personnel serving in rural communities.
Another recommendation was an upward review of professional allowances for nurses and other allied health workers in line with the proposed allowance scales.
Following consideration of the committee's report, the Governor approved the recommendations submitted by the Office of the Head of Service.
The approvals include the advancement of medical laboratory scientists currently on Grade Level 09 to Grade Level 10, effective from the dates of their respective appointments, to maintain seniority in the service.
The Governor also approved the implementation of the proposed Professional Allowance Table for nurses and allied health workers employed by the state government.
Consequently, the Chairman of the Kwara State Civil Service Commission has been directed to implement the approved grade-level advancement for medical laboratory scientists, while the Commissioner for Finance has been instructed to make the necessary arrangements for implementing the approved measures.
The approval is expected to support the welfare and retention of healthcare professionals and strengthen healthcare service delivery across Kwara State.
