Workers' welfare: Kwara clears outstanding allowances for state counsels

Date: 2026-09-07

The Kwara State Government has approved the payment of outstanding furniture and robe allowances to state counsels, extending the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration's record of addressing workers' welfare and clearing longstanding entitlements.

The latest approval covers the outstanding balance of 2016-2020 furniture allowances, the 2024 furniture allowance, as well as robe allowances for 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Acting Head of Service, Dr. Olufunke Mercy Shittu, disclosed the approval following a review of demands presented by the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Kwara State Chapter.

The development follows a broader pattern under the AbdulRazaq administration of prioritising the state workforce, including the settlement of inherited salary and promotion-related obligations, implementation of wage adjustments and other interventions aimed at improving the conditions of public servants.

Shittu said the latest approval further demonstrates the administration's commitment to ensuring that legitimate workers' entitlements are honoured.

She added that the Commissioner for Finance has been directed to implement the payments.

For the affected state counsels, the decision means that outstanding furniture entitlements stretching back several years will now be addressed alongside more recent robe allowances.

The Acting Head of Service commended the state government for continuing to prioritise workers' welfare and approving the settlement of the outstanding obligations.
