AATU Hails Appointment of Former UNILAG VC Ogundipe as NUC Governing Board Chairman
AbdulRasaq Abubakar Toyin University (AATU), Oke-Ogba, Ganmo, Kwara State has felicitated with the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, on his appointment as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC), describing the appointment as a well-deserved recognition of Prof. Ogundipe's exemplary leadership, distinguished academic career and immense contributions to the advancement of higher education in Nigeria.
In a congratulatory message signed by AATU's Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Olatunji, Professor Ogundipe's appointment reflects the confidence reposed in his wealth of experience, integrity, administrative competence and visionary leadership.
According to the statement, Professor Ogundipe's tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos reflected institutional stability, academic excellence, infrastructural development, research innovation and enhanced global visibility for the University.
The Ag. V.C. also recalled that while Prof. Ogundipe served as Dean of the Postgraduate School, University of Lagos, he introduced monumental initiatives that strengthened postgraduate education, improved research productivity, enhanced academic standards and mentored thousands of postgraduate students who have continued to make significant contributions to national development.
Professor Olugbenga Olatunji recalled with pride that he was privileged to undertake his postgraduate studies at the University of Lagos while Professor Ogundipe served as the Dean of the Postgraduate School, describing the new Chairman of the NUC Board as a disciplined academic leader, an inspiring mentor and a strong advocate of excellence whose leadership positively influenced many scholars.
"AATU is particularly delighted that one of Nigeria's finest university administrators has been entrusted with the responsibility of providing strategic leadership for the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission. We are confident that Professor Ogundipe will bring his vast wealth of experience, administrative acumen and deep understanding of university governance in strengthening quality assurance, institutional governance, research, innovation and academic excellence across Nigerian universities," the statement said.
The University expressed confidence that Professor Ogundipe's tenure would further reposition the National Universities Commission to effectively drive policies that would enhance the quality, competitiveness and global relevance of Nigeria's universities.
While wishing him a successful, impactful and fulfilling tenure, the Ag. V.C. prayed that Almighty God would grant Professor Ogundipe good health, wisdom and strength to successfully discharge the responsibilities of his new office in the interest of the country's higher education sector.
