Governor AbdulRazaq Procures State-Of-The-Art MRI For Kwara Teaching Hospital
Residents of Kwara State and surrounding areas will soon have access to advanced diagnostic services as the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH) prepares to install a newly procured Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Dr. Ahmed Bola Abdulkadir, confirmed on Sunday, January 25, 2026, that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has successfully procured the high-tech equipment to end the "unnecessary stress" patients face while seeking medical imaging.
Currently, many patients from Ilorin are forced to travel to Ekiti, Oyo, or Lagos states for MRI investigations. Dr. Abdulkadir shared a touching account of a patient who found herself 15th on a waiting list in a neighboring state, only to discover that eight people ahead of her had also traveled from Ilorin.
"We once had an MRI, but it was a first-generation machine supplied during the Obasanjo administration," the CMD explained. He described the new acquisition as a "very sophisticated facility" that represents one of the latest advancements in medical technology, designed to significantly improve diagnosis and patient records.
The installation of the MRI follows the recent reopening of the hospital's Radiology Department on January 15, which underwent a major upgrade to accommodate state-of-the-art imaging tools. This investment is part of the broader transformation of the former General Hospital Ilorin into a fully-fledged University Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Abdulkadir commended the Governor for his sustained investment in modernizing the state's health sector, noting that the hospital is entering an era of unprecedented opportunity for quality patient care.
