Kwara Kicks Off Campaign to Vaccinate 1.8 Million Children Against Measles, Rubella, and Polio
At least 1.8 million children in Kwara State, aged between nine months and 14 years, are set to be vaccinated against measles rubella (MRV) and polio as part of a new statewide immunization campaign.
The wife of the Kwara State Governor, Ambassador Olufolake AbdulRazaq, announced the target at the official flag off ceremony held in Ilorin. She described the comprehensive exercise as not just a policy milestone but a life saving intervention for children and families across the state.
Ambassador AbdulRazaq strongly urged all parents and guardians to present their children within the specified age range for vaccination. She emphasized that the introduction of the measles rubella vaccine is particularly timely, especially in light of recent measles outbreaks reported in some parts of the country.
In her remarks, the Surveillance Officer for the World Health Organization (WHO), Mrs. Abdulkadir Rashidat, appealed to the media and civil society organisations to help combat misinformation and vaccine hesitancy surrounding the vital campaign.
