Kwara Fire Service Saves Eight Shops in Tanke Blaze, One Shop Destroyed

Date: 2025-08-26

The Kwara State Fire Service has confirmed it prevented total destruction during a fire outbreak at Joseph Duntoye Street, Tipper Garage, Tanke Area, under Ilorin South Local Government, on Sunday.

In a statement released on Monday by Hassan Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Fire Service, it was disclosed that out of nine shops in the building, only one was destroyed by fire, while eight others were saved.

He attributed the successful intervention to the timely arrival of firefighters at the scene.

"The timely arrival of firemen at the scene prevented the fire from spreading to the entire building," Adekunle said.

"On arrival, firefighters discovered a building housing approximately nine shops already involved in the blaze. However, due to swift action by the fire crew, only one shop was affected."

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing.

He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the fire incident was caused by a power surge, which ignited the affected shop.

"The timely response of the Kwara State Fire Service prevented the fire from spreading to the remaining shops in the building and adjoining structures, thereby saving valuable properties from destruction.

The Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Mr John Famuyiwa urges members of the public to always prioritize electrical safety and ensure proper maintenance of wiring systems to avoid fire outbreak.
