Kwara Launches Upgraded HIV/AIDS Control Hub to Strengthen Epidemic Response
The Kwara State Government has officially commissioned a newly refurbished six-room office complex to enhance operations of the State AIDS and STIs Control Programme (SASCP) and the Society for Family Health (SFH) in Ilorin.
Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, Commissioner for Health, described the facility upgrade as a pivotal milestone in the state's efforts to achieve HIV epidemic control, reaffirming the administration's dedication to strengthening healthcare systems and improving access to HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment services .
The renovation, funded under the Global Fund GC7 N-THRIP Grant, was implemented by the Society for Family Health (SFH) as a sub-recipient to the National HIV Programme (HVN), in collaboration with the Kwara State Ministry of Health. Dr. El-Imam stated: "This project underscores our commitment to creating a more enabling environment for health workers and enhancing coordination of our HIV response across the state."
The upgraded facility aims to streamline administrative processes, support data management, and improve service delivery for at-risk communities, aligning with Kwara's broader public health strategy.
The Commissioner who applauded the collaborative effort behind the project, reaffirmed the Ministry's dedication to providing sustainable infrastructure for health programmes in the state.
She maintained that the newly renovated office would significantly improve operational efficiency in coordinating HIV interventions and appreciated support from the Global Fund, SFH, and all other partners in making this a reality.
The Team Lead, Society for Family Health, Dr. Owen omede, in his remarks, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Commissioner for her unwavering support.
"We stand here today filled with excitement and appreciation. This would not have been possible without your immense commitment to achieving HIV epidemic control". the Team Lead remarked.
Dr Owen explained that the newly renovated facility will house strategic teams working on HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support, ensuring that Kwara State remains on track toward controlling and ultimately ending the HIV epidemic.
