First 558 Kwara Hajj Pilgrims Return Safely, Praise State's 'Exceptional' Welfare Support
The first contingent of 558 Kwara State pilgrims has returned home safely following the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. The group arrived at Babatunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin, aboard a Max Airline flight at 6:19 a.m. on Saturday, led by Hajia Khadijat Otuyo, a Board member of the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims' Welfare Board.
The pilgrims expressed profound gratitude to Allah for a spiritually fulfilling journey and commended the state government for its robust welfare arrangements, including the provision of local Nigerian food during the pilgrimage.
Alhaji Uthman Iyanda-Muhammad, Ilorin's revered "Mufasir Agba" (Chief Quranic Scholar), described this year's Hajj as "exceptional", praising the state's efforts in ensuring the pilgrims' comfort and dignity. He highlighted the meticulous planning and support provided by authorities, which he said aligned with Islamic principles of care and compassion.
The successful repatriation marks the beginning of the state's Hajj return operations, with subsequent batches expected to arrive in the coming days. The government's prioritisation of pilgrim welfare has drawn acclaim, underscoring its commitment to facilitating seamless and respectful Hajj experiences.
One of the pilgrims, Prince Muhammed Esuwoye dismissed social media rumours claiming that Kwara pilgrims were stranded, he clarified that flight schedules are solely managed by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), not the State Pilgrims Board.
Another pilgrim, Alhaja Magaji Habeebat thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the financial support that eased their stay in Saudi Arabia.
The pilgrims also appreciated the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims' Welfare Board for the seamless arrangements, including good accommodation, good meals and effective transportation throughout the Hajj rites.
