Kwara Govt Tasks New Sole Administrators
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has called on the newly appointed Sole Administrators in Offa and Oyun Local Government Areas of the state, Alhaji Ishaq Abubakar and Alhaji Gidado B Bello respectively, to take decisive action to quell the boundary crisis between Erin-Ile and Offa and provide necessary support to security agents stationed in the two communities.
Speaking during the swearing in ceremony of the two administrators on Monday at the Deputy Governor's office, the Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Elder Peter Kisira, particularly urged the administrators to further take actions to help restore lasting peace, law and order to the two neighbouring communities.
"Let me congratulate the Sole Administrators for the opportunities to serve Kwara State at this critical period. The tasks before you are arduous and challenging. I therefore, urge you to bring to bear your wealth of experience, expertise and professional prowess to handle the assignment, knowing full well that the Government and the good people of Kwara State look up to you to efficiently administer the councils.
"It is therefore, our hope that you will put in your very best to justify the confidence reposed in you by the Government and the people of Kwara State in the execution of this assignment" the governor said.
Speaking on the rationale behind the suspension of the two Council Chiefs, Ahmed said the government review of the situation in both communities revealed lapses in the handling of the crisis by the Councils of both Offa and Oyun Local Government areas, adding that there were no convincing interventions by the two Councils to resolve the problems before it escalated.
"As Chief Security Officers of their respective councils, the Chairmen of Offa and Oyun LG Councils failed to take preemptive and remedial measures to effectively curtail the imminent breakdown of law and order in Erin-Ile and Offa towns. Consequently, their performances fell bellow expectation" the governor added.
In his response, the sole administrator of Offa LG, Alhaji Ishaq Abubakar who spoke on behalf of the two administrators thanked the state government for giving them the opportunity to serve the state and promised the readiness of both of them to put in their best to ensure that peace, law and order return to the two local government areas.
The swearing in was attended by some top government officials in the state which included the Secretary to State Government (SSG) Alhaji Isiaka Gold, the state Head of Service, Alhaji Dabarako Muhammed and several others.
