CDHR Demands Action Over Ilorin-Jebba Crash: Medical Bills and Road Safety Urgently Needed
The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) Kwara State chapter has extended condolences to the families of Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) members killed in a fatal road crash on the Ilorin-Jebba highway.
The accident, which occurred on 10 April 2025, claimed the lives of nine NRCS staff and volunteers from Kwara State and the national headquarters. They were on official duty at the time of the incident.
In a statement jointly signed by CDHR Chairman Comrade Lukman Olanrewaju and Acting Secretary Comrade Folashade Olabanji, the group urged Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to assume full responsibility for covering the medical costs of the injured.
The CDHR also called on the state government to address persistent safety risks along the Ilorin-Jebba road, labelling it a "death trap" responsible for numerous fatalities. It further urged urgent upgrades to emergency response infrastructure.
Reaffirming its commitment to human rights advocacy, the committee demanded comprehensive medical care for injured first responders to support their recovery.
