Oyun LGA Chairman Inspects Damage After Igbonna Communities Hit by Severe Storm
A severe downpour on Wednesday devastated Igbonna communities in Oyun Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara State, collapsing several buildings and an educational institution.
The heavy rainfall caused widespread destruction, with reports indicating that dozens of structures and a school were rendered uninhabitable or unsafe. The incident underscores the vulnerability of infrastructure to extreme weather events in the region.
In response, Kamar Olanrewaju Akanbi, Executive Chairman of Oyun LGA, visited the affected areas to assess the damage and coordinate relief efforts. His visit highlights the urgency of addressing the aftermath of the storm and providing support to impacted residents.
Addressing the residents, the council chairman expressed his heartfelt sympathy and assured them of the government's support during this difficult time. He emphasised that relief efforts would be prioritised to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by the disaster.
As part of the government's intervention, the chairman pledged that the rebuilding of the collapsed school would be a top priority in the next development phase.
He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring the well-being of the residents.
Accompanying the chairman were key officials, including the Speaker of the Oyun Legislative Council, Ayanlere Omotayo Olalekan, and the Head of the Works Department, among others.
