Kwara Governor Receives 2011 Hajj Report

Date: 2012-03-05

Chairman of the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board, Imam Usman Sulaiman Olosun yesterday presented the 2011 hajj report to the state governor, Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmad.

Presenting the report, Olosun said the state recorded one death during the exercise. He urged the government to allow all members of the board and staff of the secretariat to perform the 2012 pilgrimage for more efficient service delivery to pilgrims.

Speaking after receiving the report, the governor assured the people of the state of equity and justice, charging religion adherents to be one another's keepers for a peaceful and harmonious society.

"Religion is not only about peace with our creator, but also about harmony with neighbours, irrespective of religion leanings. For a greater and better Nigeria, we all must learn to be agents of peace as no religion preaches violence," he said.

Alhaji Ahmad promised that government will not relent in its commitment to the provision of quality services to pilgrims from the state.

The governor, who described hajj as a spiritually uplifting exercise, said plans have reached an advanced stage to transform the board into a commission in line with the directives of the National Hajj Commission.
