Kwara Re-States Commitment to Commercial Agric
The Kwara State Government, yesterday, restated its commitment to the promotion of agriculture through public private partnership to ensure economic prosperity in the state.
The State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, stated this while declaring open a one -day International agricultural summit with the theme "Financing Agriculture in Nigeria" organised by Vanguard Media Ltd in conjunction with Kwara state government and Courtly Communications Ltd held in Ilorin, the state capital.
He said that agriculture remained the only sector that could bail Nigerians out of poverty.
Represented by the commissioner for Agriculture and Natural resources, Ahmed said that the state has opened up the history of large scale commercial agriculture in the country.
He said the Shonga farm experimented by the state government "is now yielding much fruits as many states are thinking of replicating it."
The governor opined that agriculture would move Nigeria from being a mono-economy to a better place for more business.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of Kafam Agro-Allied Nigeria Limited, Alhaji Adamu Othman, said that everyone needed agriculture to survive as oil was not edible.
He stressed the need for the government to support the farmers to enable them embark on large scale farming.
He said Nigerian farmers have the potentials to succeed as commercial farmers if they were given the desired support.
