Kwara Government Lifts Vehicle Ban on Ahmadu Bello Way, Permits Shuttle Buses and Taxis
The Kwara State Government has lifted its earlier restriction on select vehicle categories using Ahmadu Bello Way, now permitting shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing services to access the route leading to Government House.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, via the ministry's Press Secretary, Olajide Abolarin, it was clarified that mini-shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing vehicles are now allowed to operate along Ahmadu Bello Way, a significant route lined with key establishments, including the Government House, ministries, and security installations.
“This clarification is necessary for public awareness,” the statement read.
However, Olododo reiterated that tricycles, motorcycles, and heavy-duty trucks remain restricted from the route, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order in the area.
Last Friday, the government had restricted several categories of vehicles from accessing Ahmadu Bello Way, directing the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency to begin immediate enforcement.
The restricted vehicles included tricycles (Keke Napep), commercial motorcycles (Okada), taxis, trucks, and heavy-duty vehicles. Olododo noted that violators of the restrictions would face fines of up to N50,000.
Ahmadu Bello Way, recently rehabilitated, serves as a key access route for commercial vehicles heading to Tanke, Fate, and River Basin areas within the Ilorin metropolis.
The Ministry of Works and Transport has since commenced the installation of restriction signage along the corridor, starting from Challenge through Ahmadu Bello Way, to notify the public.
