Kwara State Government has announced that it has recorded an increase in enrolment for Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) within five years of the administration of the state governor, Abdul Rahman AbdulRazaq.
The state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Sa'adatu Modibbo-Kawu, disclosed this whilst announcing the release of the results of the 2024 BECE Examination at the ministry's headquarters on Thursday.
According to the commissioner, a total of 56,486 candidates were enrolled for the 2024 Kwara Basic Education Certificate Examinations, with 29,255 candidates representing (51.79%) males, and 27,232 (48.21%) females.
Modibbo-Kawu said, “There has been a 23.44% increase in enrolment between 2019 and 2024.”
Whilst receiving the results from the Director, Curriculum and Assessment Department, Mrs. Adewuyi Funmilayo, the commissioner expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the examination and applauded the Examinations Department for a job well done.
The commissioner also commended Governor AbdulRazaq for subsidising the 2024 BECE, describing it as a benevolent act that received commendation from parents, and his vision to revamp the education sector, which has greatly improved since the inception of the present administration from 2019 to date.
She called on all principals of senior secondary schools, parents, and guardians across the state to come to the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development as of Friday, 13 September 2024, for the collection of the scratch cards to access the results of their students and wards, warning the school heads to refrain from collecting illegal money from students.
“Scratch cards for checking results are not to be paid for by parents. Please do not extort money from the students,” Modibbo-Kawu stated.
She also expressed satisfaction with the consultant, Engr Taofik Abdulkareem of Plat Technologies Limited, for delivering in a timely manner and providing detailed analysis and reports, which has become a hallmark of his company.
In her remarks, the ministry's Permanent Secretary, Mrs Rebecca Olanrewaju, who expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the examination, appreciated the efforts of the Curriculum and Assessment Department for its commitment to ensuring the success of this year's BECE.
