Kwara Aviation College to Sign MoU with NCAT to Enhance Sector Training
According to a news report from Daily Trust, the International Aviation College (IAC) in Ilorin is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria. This partnership aims to enhance manpower development within the aviation sector.
The college also plans to establish a School of Engineering and introduce short courses, such as Cabin Crew training, to boost the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the Kwara State Government-owned Aviation Training School.
Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr (Mrs) Mary Ronke Arinde, made this announcement on Monday while inaugurating the 2023 annual training of the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) at IAC, Ilorin.
Dr Arinde reiterated the commitment of the state governor, Mall. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to reposition the college for effective service delivery. She noted that the planned MoU with NCAT, Nigeria's oldest aviation training institution, is part of a broader collaboration with sister agencies to promote aviation development.
Daily Trust reports that it would be the first time the school established in 2011 would be signing an MoU with NCAT Zaria, an ICAO-designated regional training centre of excellence established over 50 years ago.
She said, “I'm also pleased to inform you that the state government has created the enabling environment for the college to collaborate with sister institutions to promote the aviation sector.
“As we speak, arrangements have been concluded on Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between International Aviation College (IAC), Ilorin and Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria
Ag. Rector of the college, Capt. Yakubu Okatahi, declared that aviation remains the safest means of transportation globally.
He however declared that only less than 10 per cent of the population like the high-net-worth individuals, politicians and businessmen who constitute the frequent fliers.
He urged journalists to shun sensationalism in their reportage of events in the aviation sector.
There are representatives of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) PLC, among others, attending the training.
