According to a news report from Sports247, retired Justice Lambo Akanbi has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing golf in Kwara State and beyond.

Justice Akanbi made this declaration while inaugurating the Emirate Global Hotel Amateur Open Tournament 2024 on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Ilorin Golf Club.

As the tournament's sponsor, Justice Akanbi expressed his intention to attract top golfers from across Nigeria to Ilorin, aiming to foster the sport's growth.

Highlighting the support of Emirate Global Hotel and Suite in promoting sports in Kwara State, the former Commissioner For Information and Youth Development emphasised the inclusive nature of golf, stating.

“Golf is not only for the elite but for everyone who has the passion. The game got its breakthrough when the former Head of State, General Badamosi Babaginda visited Kwara State and asked the former Governor of Kwara State, General Alwali Jauji Kazir the location of the golf course. I led the entourage to this location and the rest is history”.

Recalling the historical significance of golf in the region, Justice Akanbi recounted its pivotal moment during a visit by former Head of State, General Badamosi Babaginda, to Kwara State.

The Emirate Global Hotel Amateur Open Tournament 2024 has drawn 146 golfers to Ilorin, who arrived on Friday, May 10, 2024, for pre-tournament activities and familiarisation with the course. Despite an early morning shower, the tournament commenced at 6.00am, benefitting from pleasant weather conditions conducive to the game.

The competition unfolds across the prestigious 18-hole Ilorin Golf Club, showcasing the region's commitment to nurturing golf talent.
