Kwara: 6 Remanded For Holding Victim After Ransom
A Magistrates' Court sitting in Il?rin, the Kwara State capital, has ordered the remand of six suspects for allegedly kidnapping one Abdullahi Damilola Giwa in his residence at Warah, Il?rin West LGA.
The suspects are Usman Mohammed, Abdulfatai Sheu, Zaradeen Rilwan, Joseph Daniel, Paul Ezra, Mohammod Umar and Haruna Mohammed said to be at large.
They were arraigned over a five-count charge of conspiracy to commit kidnapping, kidnapping, aiding/abetting, knowingly receiving ransom and armed robbery.
The offences contravene sections of kidnapping law and robbery and firearms act.
According to the charge sheet, the victim was accosted by the suspected kidnappers around 9:40 pm when he was about to open the gate of his house shooting sporadically before he was whisked to an unknown destination.
“The following day, they contacted the family demanding N50 million but later negotiated to N4 million, ?ne ???k each of Maltina and three crown milk. But when the victim's father took the ransom as instructed to a bridge at Shao, he was threatened with a gun. They collected the money and items without releasing the victim,” the charge sheet added.
The prosecutor, Matthew Ologbonsaye, urged the court to remand them against the plea of the defence, Toyin Onaolapo, for bail.
Ruling on the matter, Magistrate Fatimah Saliu remanded the suspects and adjourned the matter until January 17, 2023.
