Maintain the Peace, KWSG Urges General Public
Reacting to reports of a clash between branches of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Offa and Erin-Ile communities, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Isiaka Gold, said in a statement issued in Ilorin that law enforcement agents have brought the situation under control in both communities.
While stressing the need to maintain Kwara State's reputation for peace and harmony, the SSG emphasised that the infrastructural development and economic growth achieved by government was only possible due to the peaceful atmosphere existing in the state.
Alhaji Gold advised individuals and groups with a grievance or disagreement to utilise lawful channels for dispute resolution such as the law courts rather than take the law into their hands. Speaking further, the SSG stressed that the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on any one apprehended by security agents for disrupting the peace or otherwise disturbing public order under any guise, regardless of their position.
Alhaji Gold called on all law-abiding citizens to ignore rumours of communal conflict in any part of the state, adding that what happened in Offa and Erin-Ile was a dispute between transport workers.
