Commercial okada riders now under one union – Kwara govt orders

Date: 2023-11-02

The Kwara State Government has ordered that commercial motorcyclists must be under one body, Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN).

This was the resolution at the stakeholders meeting between the Supervising Commissioner of the Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transport, Hon Qawiy Olododo, the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, Alhaji Muyideen Aliu and the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.

In attendance were representatives of various transport unions in Kwara State, which included MOUN, RTEAN, NURTW, NORA and NACT.

Qawiy, on behalf of the state government, stated that henceforth, the Kwara State Government recognises only one body for commercial motocyclists, which is MOUN, therefore, the Code 1 to 7 has been cancelled.

He said the decision was taken to ensure that some operators would not hide under various bodies to perpetrate evil.

The chairman of Motocycle Operators Union of Nigeria, Kwara State branch, Alhaji Abdulazeez Yakubu Tinuola, on behalf of the union, appreciated the state government for the bold step taken.

He promised to work in accordance with the constitution to ensure that excos spread across the three senatorial districts in Kwara State to ensure peace and orderliness in the union.

The chairman also pledged the support of the union to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and his administration.
